Hetedik Nap - 2013.06.26.

Még mindig az útról jelentkezik a kis csapat. Ma végre átléptük az utolsó időzónát is és átálltunk a Csendes-óceáni időzónára. Ugyancsak egy hosszú és többnyire eseménytelen nap áll mögöttünk, de ma már azzal a tudattal fekszünk le aludni, hogy holnap már a Csendes óceán partjánál leszünk. Reggel egy kicsit később indultunk a megszokottnál, csupán 10 óra körül keltünk útra Cheyenne-ből. Habár az út eseménytelen volt, mégis kattogottak a fényképezők, mert Észak-Amerika legszebb tájait szeltük keresztül. A táj képe többször változott, mint egy politikus véleménye, és csak kapkodtuk a fejünket, hogy éppen melyik oldalon fotózzunk. Ennek az lett az eredménye, hogy a képek mennyiségileg elérték az első New York-i napunkon készültekét. A menet közben átvágtunk a Sziklás-hegység lankáin, jártunk 6000 láb felett is, és három államban is tiszteletünket tettük. Habár hosszú nap volt a mai, de mindenképpen megérte, hiszen csodálatos látvány tárult a szemünk elé minden megtett mérföldön. A nap vége felé elhaladtunk a Bonneville-i versenypálya mellett, ahova be is kukkantottunk egy 20 percre. Ez a pálya abból a szempontból számít különlegesnek, hogy az egész pálya egy kiszáradt sós tó helyén van. A filmekben jártasabbaknak ismerős lehet a helyszín a Világ leggyorsabb Indiánja című filmből, ahol a pálya szolgált a cselekmény helyszínéül. A terület egészét száradt só borítja, amíg a szem ellát, igazi kietlen, senki földje érzést keltve. Azonban mégis egyedülálló élmény volt élőben megtekinteni ezt a különleges természeti képződményt. Miután eleget csodáltuk a pályát, visszatértünk az autópályára, és meg sem álltunk Elko városáig, ahol az esti szállásunk is lesz. Készülünk is, és alszunk, mert holnap korán kell kelnünk, ha időben San Francisco-ba akarunk érni ;)

Seventh day - 2013.06.26.

Hey everyone!

We are still reporting from the road. Today we finally passed our last time zone and set our clocks to the Pacific Daylight Time. We left a long and eventless day behind us again, but we are going to go to sleep tonight with the mind that tomorrow we will be at the coast of the Pacific Ocean. We begun today’s trip a little late, left Cheyenne only at 10 o’clock. Though it was an eventless day, we still took a lot of pictures, because of one simple reason: we travelled through the most beautiful places of North America. The view changed more than the opinion of a politician, and we cannot decide which side of the road we should capture. Finally we took more photos than on our first day in New York. During the trip, we went over the hills of the Rocky Mountain, we were more than 6000 feet above, and saw three states. Although today was a long day, it’s still worth it, because we had the chance to see something wonderful on every taken mile. At the end of the day we passed the Bonneville Salt Flats Speedway, and break our plan, just to get a good look of it. The speedway is special in a way that the place is on a dried-up salt lake. It could be familiar for movie fans too, because this is the place, where they shot the Anthony Hopkins movie, the World’s fastest Indian. The whole area is covered with salt till you can see, a drear land, which creates some kind of a no man’s land feeling. Still, it was a unique experience to see this special natural formation.  After we made some great pics, we continued our journey, and only stopped at the city of Elko, our overnight stay. Now we ready to sleep, because we have to get up early in the morning if we want to be in San Francisco on time ;)

Újra itt vagyunk az úton, rendületlenül haladunk előre San Francisco felé, nincs előttünk akadály, amit ne tudnánk legyűrni. Ma már Cheyenneben alszunk, ami azt jelenti, hogy átléptünk a Hegyvidéki időzónába, a Mountain Daylight time-ba. Mivel még igen hosszú út áll előttünk, míg San Franciscoba érünk, ezért csak néhány hasznos tippet és pár képet tudunk ma megosztani veletek.

1. Hogyan fizessünk az Egyesült Államokban?

Adva van a válasz, hogy készpénzzel, de szinte mindenhol elfogadnak bankkártyát is, ami gyorsabb és egyszerűbb fizetési mód is. Mi is inkább ezt preferáljuk az út során. Aki ki szeretne utazni, annak vagy a Raifaissen, vagy az MKB banknál érdemes számlát nyitnia. Itt annyit kell tenni, hogy egy USA dollár alapú számlát kell nyitni, hozzá egy Visa kártyával. Ez egy alszámla lesz, a forint alapú főszámla mellett. A kártyát viszonylag hamar, egy-másfél hét alatt megküldik, minden dokumentációval együtt. Ami problémásabb lehet, az a külföldi használat, leginkább az MKB esetében. A tegnapi nap ugyanis blokkolták a Taki kártyáját az MKB-nál, mivel gyanúsnak találták a tranzakciókat rajta. A Bankból ugyan próbáltak telefonálni, de anyagi megfontolásokból természetesen nem vettük fel a telefont. Szerencsére Chicago után egyből megálltunk egy pihenőhelyen, ahol felhívtuk az egész nap hívható MKB ügyfélszolgálatot, ahol egy 5 perces kérdezz-felelek után újra aktiválták a kártyát. Egy részről jó, hogy ennyire aggódnak a banknál a pénzünk miatt, de kicsit nevetséges volt az, hogy pár használat után blokkolják a kártyát, és az ember azt se tudja, hogy mi történt a pénzével, és mehet az egész napos idegeskedés, amíg internet közelbe nem kerül az ember. A történet végül szerencsés véget ért, de felesleges idegeskedést és aggódást inkább nem kértük volna. Mivel a Raifaissennel még nem fordult elő semmi probléma, ezért elgondolkodtató, hogy hol csináltasson legközelebb kártyát az ember.

2. Mi a teendő, ha a bérautóval valami probléma történik?

Ez egy igen fontos kérdés, főleg ha ilyen hosszú útra megy az ember. Velünk pont ma esett meg, hogy rájöjjünk, mi is a válasz erre a kérdésre. Miután elhagytuk esti szállásunkat, Des Moines-hoz érve Red Queen (ezt a nevet kapta a kocsink) motorolaj cserét kért sürgősen, ezért gyorsan előkaptuk minden iratunkat, és felhívtuk az Alamo-t, hogy mit kéne csinálnunk. Két lehetőség előtt álltunk, vagy felhívjuk a Roadside assistance-t és megvárjuk, míg kijönnek, vagy – amit mi is tettünk – bemenni a legközelebbi Alamo-ba, és segítséget kérni. A helyi irodájuk kifejezetten segítőkész volt, és rögtön felvázolta a lehetőségeinket. Mivel nem akartunk megválni a királynőnktől, ezért kértünk egy olajcserét a közeli autóműhelyben (minden ingyen volt) és már újra úton is voltunk. Sajnos a két óra, amit a korai ébredéssel nyertünk így rögtön semmivé foszlott. De minden jóban van valami jó, a kocsit átnézték, az olajat kicserélték így nem kell aggódnunk, hogy ez a sivatag közepén, essen meg velünk.

Napi okosságnak ennyi elég is, mi megyünk aludni, mert holnap át kell szelnünk a Sziklás hegységet egészen Battle Mountain-ig. Újabb kemény nap és újabb időzóna vár minket, addig is jóéjszakát és jó reggelt mindenkinek.

Sixth day – 2013.06.25.

Hey there!

We are back on the road once again and constantly moving forward towards San Francisco. There is no obstacle we can’t overcome. Tonight we are going to sleep in Cheyenne, which means that we passed another time zone and now we are in the Mountain Daylight time zone. Concerning the fact, that there is still a long road ahead of us till we reach San Francisco, all we can offer just some useful tips and some pictures from the road between Chicago and Cheyenne.

1. How we can pay in the USA?

The obvious answer is cash, but we also can pay with a card too almost everywhere, which is a quicker way. We also prefer the latter way on the trip. Those who would like to travel to the US we can offer the Raifaissen bank or the MKB (only for Hungarians). The only thing you should do, that you walk into one of these banks and open an account with US dollars, with a Visa card. They will send it out approximately one-one and a half weeks from the day you opened the account. This was the easy part, the problem – that we ran into last day – with the card that may occur is that when you use it here multiple times a day the bank may block your card. Last day Taki’s card got blocked, because they found the transactions he made suspicious. The bank tried to call, but from financial reasons (it would’ve cost a lot of money) we didn’t take the call. Luckily after we left Chicago, we stopped at a resting point and called the customer services of the bank, where, after a 5 minutes long questioning they activated the card. In one way it’s a good thing that our bank worries this much but it is a little ridiculous that after a few transaction the block the card and nobody knows what happened with the money. Fortunately the story got a happy end, but it would’ve been better if we didn’t have to worry about this. This problem hasn’t come up with the Raifaissen card yet, so next time I think we going to go with them.

 

2. What to do when something happens with the rental car?

This is a really important question, especially when somebody goes to a trip, long like this. It occurred today with our car, so we had to figure it out what is the answer for this question. After we left the motel at Willisburg, near to Des Moines the Red Queen (this is how we named the car) asked for an engine oil change immediately, so we quickly gathered all the papers we needed, and called Alamo with our problem. We had two choices: call the roadside assistance to check out the car or go to the nearest Alamo office. We picked the latter, and went to their office at the Des Moines international airport, where we got all the help we needed, and offered an oil change (free of charge) at the nearby car service. They changed the oil quickly and we hit the road right away. Unfortunately the two hours we gained for getting up earlier disappeared, but at least they checked the car, changed the oil so we don’t have to worry about that something like this happens in the middle of the desert.

This will be enough for today, now we are going to sleep, because we have a Rocky Mountain to cross tomorrow way up to Battle Mountain. Another hard day, another time zone waiting for us, until then Good Night and Good Morning to everyone!
